No remote? No Photo Booth? That's got to be a deal breaker for a lot of folks. ;)
As for the real world, many professionals have funds to purchase these machines as they will use the speed. It seems to me that most "consumers" are not able or willing to plop down the cash to buy a Mac Pro when an iMac or MacBook or even Mac Mini will more than suit their needs.
No front row and no photo booth was definitely a downer for me. I expect to see iSight 2.0 with better optics and IR sensor built-in released later this year.

Whilst the new Nano's are nice as are the new video ipods I don't see any compelling reason at the minute for me to go and spend some $$$.
I bought my ipod in January (at a substantially reduced price compared to full UK retail when I was in Japan) and it's working a charm. I didn't fall foul of the scratching/screen problems because I was careful enough to buy adhesive screen protector/case. Yeah it might not look as cool inside a rubber enclosure but it sure as hell isn't gonna break.
My problem with the new Nano's is that there just doesnt seem anything that would compell me to upgrade now a MUST HAVE feature. Most certainly I'll upgrade when either a) Ipod has an accident or b) the battery fails as considering a battery service is half the cost of a new 2GB nano it doesnt seem wortwhile.
So yeah...nice...but my wallet stays shut till something happens to my current Nano. Sorry Apple :(

there was a thing last week where tweetdeck's new app was pulled because it crashed constantly. most of the problems with Windows over the last 20 years have been third party apps and drivers and not the OS itself, yet MS got the blame. Apple learned a lesson from that. it took MS years to change the architecture to limit bad code from developers
By offering applications both ways you have an advantage. Apps that want to be listed on the App store need to pass all the usual tests and review process.

FINALLY got through on the phone to APPLECARE and talked to Brett after being on hold for 25 minutes, he said the site and their phone lines are getting hit HARD right now, and that the site will be back up in one hour.
So until then lets be patient and think about those BRAND NEW BATTERIES we'll be getting at Sony's expense (of course, keep a fire extinguisher and a bottle of vodka in your backpack just in case.)

When you study harmony, who are you going to study the most? Bach
When you study Music History of the Baroque era, who is going to take the biggest part of the semester? Bach.
When you study Harpsichord or organ, who is the biggest composer you are going to study? Bach. Even when you do piano, you are going to study Bach at leas at the beginning before your Liszt and Rachmaninoff.
I know they teach popular music at universities. The course on popular is music is optional. My wife took a course on popular music at Montreal university. PC sales are shrinking because of stagnation in the primary driving force for selling new PC hardware.
Games.
Gamers now have 4 platforms to choose from (smart phone, console, hand-held, PC), and game developers are putting LESS dollars into high end PC titles and concentrating on consoles for their premium products.
With no Diablo 3 (or whatever) to entice me with gameplay I can't find anywhere else, I have much less of a reason to play games on my PC rig, much less upgrade it.
When it comes to writing emails or checking facebook, a smart phone or tablet will do that just as well as a PC.
Macs have never been gaming machines, so they are immune from that particular effect. It is 'trendy' to have a macbook right now (seriously, go to a coffee shop and tell me what you see), and the vast majority of their sales are to less-technology/gadget-savvy users who have bought their Mac because of other people telling them that Macs are good, rather than the hardware, specs, or software on the computer.
In the end, it is all marketing... which is the case with most of Apple's products. They have been selling PC hardware now for years at a higher price than their competitors. Unfortunately, I don't think the silent majority of drones who use the facebook app care about the approval process. All that matters to them is that they get their facebook.
So let's say facebook were to pull the app in protest, or development stalls indefinitely. Who'd get blamed by the population as a whole? Facebook or Apple?

If this is what Apple bring out for their Mac Pro, my standards for iMac Ultra have now changed.
30" HD screen, 2x SLI X1900's (do they make gig x19's? If they do, they'll be in it) and the 3.2 Ghz C2DE. The new Macbook Pro will surelly get a single x1900, and a 2.67 C2D. Maybe a 19" version? The former still less than 4G, the second less than 5G ($AU).
Both with an overdrive function that overclocks both CPUs and GPUs by a factor of 2. After all, if this beast can dissipate 300W in just graphics cards, let alone 160W of CPU power, plus four high performance hard disks, power supply, etc, etc, etc, surelly my expectations aren't too high...
Sounds reasonable to me after meeting the one true beast.

Do those in the anti-piracy camp have major issues with someone who pirates Adobe products, but doesn't "profit" from them?....i.e doesn't make even enough money to cover the costs of the original products or even makes zero dollars?
I remember having to take out a significant loan for my first computer. I might as well have bought a ferrari and left it on blocks in my driveway because I couldn't afford any software. Boy was I disappointed�
Personally, I think access to opportunity thru education is critical to a functioning society�I don't think it's reasonable for underprivlidged students to have to learn photoshop from a 'trial' version ( not every middle school or highschool in the country has access to these tools.
If buying the software legally represented a financial hardship (as it once did for me) you can easily find yourself resenting not only the people who don't pay for software but the software company itself for not placing a fair value on your solicitude (support issues, bug fixes, exhorbitant upgrade fees).
