In a free and prosperous market, business exists and is done solely because it is profitable. When it ceases being profitable, it must be stopped. To keep pouring 100 units of money into something for the sake of getting 10 units of money out via payroll can only end in one thing....failure. (I'm using 'units of money' as a general example)

Does anyone in Australia (or anywhere else similar) know exactly when your education discount no longer applies for uni? Your last day of classes? Your last exam? Graduation day 2-3 months later? Because I should be finishing in February and I wanted to know how long to hold out. Will Leopard be out by Jan/Feb? Or at least a free upgrade for laptops purchased late Jan/early Feb?

If they increase the amount of RAM to 1GB they could increase the amount the integrated graphics use to around 128mb, the current 64mb is a bit low.
The 64 MB quoted for the GMA950 is actually a "sliding window". It can (and often does) request a larger chunk of video RAM from the memory controller as required. Out of that chunk, the GMA950 slides around its 64 MB window to adjust which areas of memory it can directly manipulate at any given time.
(According to Apple's website, simply booting MacOS X on a MacBook or Mac Mini causes the graphics system to commandeer approximately 80 MB of RAM.)

So there is more room for growth with Mac sales. Of course this is true because the market % is so low that it's easier to go up. This is like how Android skyrocketed, just more room to grow when nobody has your products.
The only flaw with that is the rest of the market is shrinking.
So if the market is down as a whole, and one manufacture is up, that one manufacturer is definitely doing something right.

I just bought one of the silver ones and I really like it. It feels just like a mini to touch and the packaging reminds me of the sort of boxes you got Times watches in. It's syncing up all my music as I type :)

Well it is hidden and it is different. I guarantee you that Dell doesn't pay the same price you do when they purchase a resale license for Vista from MS.

My standard music library (excluding spoken word, audio books) is around 72GB and growing. I want to have this in one simple library, available for streaming, playing in my car, taking with me when travelling etc. Split libraries are a pain to use, administer and load.
The iPod touch is too expensive for a simple music player and does lots of things I just don't need, since I have iPhones and an iPad to fulfil those functions. The iPod Classic is ideal. I do get annoyed with the incompatibility of the various versions with connecting devices, where some need version 5, 5.5 or 6 etc, as Apple has updated the Codex. it would have been nice to have built in backwards compatibility into docks etc but I suppose Apple want us to continue to buy new iPods. I would be happy if Apple made an improved iPod classic with higher quality storage and output (maybe optical like my old iRiver used to have and Macs and Airport Expresses have). I have just bought another 120GB Classic just in case they go out of production.

If they were primarily a software company, they would have gone the way of Microsoft and put out MacOS to run on any generic PC box. But we all know their take on that. I don't know the answer to question one, but the answer to the second question is yes. On top of that, the rate of conviction of blacks is higher.

I paid the same amount for my current 13.3" but I have 2.13ghz, 128gb ssd, superdrive, apple care, retail leopard and snow leopard rolled into it.
Plus, you've also got a backlit keyboard (which some of us value a lot) on your MBA. :)

Yes almost every release in the Beatles era was intended for mono. Stereo releases were made years later and the wide effect was partly due to the fact that these songs were mastered from 2 tracks and because the music was recorded to one track and the vocals to the other, well there was no really other way to get stereo...

Music is mastered from 2 track mixes (unless you're making surround masters, in which case you'd mix from 6 tracks or more). This hasnt changed to this day. Stereo was commerically available starting from the late 1950s, but almost no one had players that could handle it. So the mixes were done in mono, with stereo as an afterthought. For this reason, many of the mono mixes are superior to the stereo, although people now assume that the CD releases are the de facto standard, when in fact it was a conscious decision to release the stereo versions of every album from Help! onward.

Why take away the option now though? That makes no sense. And APPLE consumers are largely pro-sumers....at least thats who they market their products after.

My 27" iMac has arrived! It replaces a 15" MacBook Pro. I am loving it so far. It's only been about 2.5 hours so far still getting everything moved back over and setting things up to my liking (hence the external hd in the back left).
I am thinking about just giving this wireless keyboard over to the iPad, since I have the wired version with numeric keypad sitting outside of the shot. I also want to get a Magic Trackpad, as this Magic Mouse is the devil.
Oh yes, and I am using a small cutting board as a mousepad! It works well. The 17" SyncMaster to the right is a holdover from my old Power Mac G4 I had for years (still works but has been put to rest). It's fine for what I need it for, mainly extra auxiliary space for iTunes, Bridge, etc. Creature Speakers still going strong after all these years too.
Desk is a bit devoid of personality at the moment because I wanted a clean slate for when this beast arrived. Will add things back in the next week or so.

It's possibly a waste of money, though. The 32-bit Napa chipset might make it impossible to use most of the top GiB.
But I'm sure somebody will put 4 GiB in one of these soon and tell us the real story!

Apple has $15 Billion in Cash...and as a shareholder, (i'm not alone here) am a little upset that they're not doing anything with it. A billion or two won't kill them.
Remember that the iphone is the most profitable product line that apple has. I think that they will continue this trend into the other products, however in order to do so, you must build the infrastructure. Apple will either buy out a current player in the wireless sector, or will slowly deploy their own network, slowly integrating existing products into it... convergence.
