    Seems like we missed a golden opportunity in this bill. Is this the must pass budget bill? or related to troops in Iraq? I am suprised to see that this went completely under radar. I will write to my senators to thank them for the support (though it failed its nice to see their support).

    Cant help but chuckle on your choice of words - DONORS = CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS.

    So, others who volunteer their time, ideas ... are not CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS if they haven't paid 25 dollars in March ( since DONOR status started from March and 25 dollars is what is required to be a DONOR )


    I am afraid, you are missing the point here - I did not intend to start a discussion on who counts as a "Donor". There have been several discussions on that topic and IV Core has laid out guidelines (if I am not mistaken, they have made attempts to go back and include folks who have contributed money in the past as well). Instead my focus is on how to increase "dollar contributions" towards our cause since as IV Core has clearly identified, nothing moves in Washington unless you have a strong lobby working for you, and as we all know, lobbying takes a significant amount of money. What I am interested in is simply - will you contribute dollars if, in exchange, you receive regular updates?


    From a person who is in senior management position I'd expected better choices of words. Now on to your point of more regular updates -- let me ask you this - do you give weekly updates to your subordinates every week ? Do you share your strategy plans every week ? I believe whenever their is a material update to be shared, IV core will share it - predicting the frequency of it OR assuming that you will get an update every X days and see a progress is not a good practical idea.

    Since you ask - the answer is YES. Not sure if you have heard of the "Servant Leadeship" but that is a management philosophy that believes an organization makes the most progress when the "leaders" at the top take the attitude of being "Servants" to those below them. The idea is based on the simple premise that people are more engaged and motivated to work when their boss listens to them and takes the trouble to keep them updated on what is going on. Instead, "Leaders" can always take the "high and mighty" road where they look down upon those below them (for various reasons - lack of trust being just one of them) but that is never going to be as effective or efficient as the former model I just mentioned. Don't take it from me though - feel free to do your own research on this topic and you will find that an increasing number of companies are starting to adopt this philosophy in order to achieve superior results and you don't have to look far to see how this is being practised in the world of politics today (President Obama).

    Finally, IV has clearly positioned itself as a grassroots organization, but by articulating a philosophy of "we will share updates when we feel like it and think its appropriate for you to know about it", it is essentially operating in a somewhat "elitist" manner (though I believe, this is a purely a side-effect of it's loose structure, rather than intentional in any way). This also explains some of the questions coming up on the poll on "who constitutes the Core?" - while the website has a listing of the "Core" members, I believe some of that has morphed over time leading to the loose structure of today.

    All I am really advocating is more transparency ...which should lead to more involvement as well. Thanks for your time.

    I am into Datawarehousing and BI. Worked in multiple technology such as Oracle BI, Cognos, Informatica. It is frustrating to see my mid-size American Consulting Company charging the client a $180 per hour while I get $85K per annum. I cannot even switch to my client since I have signed a non-compete agreement..... I think direct marketing is the best way to augment your rates....


    Well, I like you because you are just a straight shooter. If you are such a straight shooter then let me do some straight talk, so just catch this.

    Your American mid-size company or Desi small size or super size company will get $180/hr but you will not get even $50/hr from the same client even when you go direct. So no matter how "highly-skilled" you think you are, your non-compete argument is not good enough for you not to be able directly market yourself, because there are gazillion other companies using BI, Cognos, BO, Informatica, Datastage and every similar crap. You can impress a few people by naming some technologies that maybe hot but they don't mean a &hit if you market them yourself. Here is why. A lot of people blame the lack of GC as a reason to be exploited. That is part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that most hiring managers in large companies get commission from these small, mid-size or large American, Desi or European consulting companies. That's why in most cases they always hire through one of these companies. They will not hire directly because the manager thinks you to be a stingy desi, and if he hires you directly the hiring manager will not see a dime, so why will he hire you directly? This is a big cycle of corruption and everybody is part of it including lawmakers who get contributions from lobbyist/representatives of these small, mid and large size companies. You think lawmakers don't know what is going on? You think client doesn't know that you make 85K when the middle company get $180/hr? You think the big-bosses at the company/client doesn't know that the hiring managers are getting favors from middle companies? You think lawmakers doesn't know that immigrant worker waiting for long delayed GC is bonded to an employer that buys employee retention insurance policy for the employer? They all know it. But you see every player in this movie, you, your hiring boss at the client site, the middle company, the lobbyist, the lawmaker and many more, they are all being paid from that $180/hr which you think that you are entitled for because you know Oracle BI and Congnos. Do you realize how easy this ETL, Informatica bull &hit is but somehow you seem to think that its worth $180/hr. And you seem to think that your problem is that other than you, everybody else around you is faking resumes. If you are so smart answer this, how will you avoid using two bitmap index on two columns in two tables when used in the same query? And why would you want to avoid using both the bitmap indexes? Na Na, now don't go to Asktom.com to look for an answer, you are highly skilled, you deserve $180/hr for knowing Congnos and Informatica, shouldn't you be knowing atleast this.

    Sorry, did not mean to put you on the spot, just trying to highlight that the problem in this entire debate is, every player in the picture stands up for his/her position always trying to project self-righteous image highlighting the part of the movie in which he or she is the hero and all others are villains. And BTW, now some "super-genius" branic at IEEE - some Ron Hira or NumberUSA or someone with the name Matloff will selectively cut paste from yours or mine post and use it to prove his/her agenda to make name and career for himself as if he is the savior of the world and ALL IMMIGRANTS are evil. And the story goes on and people continue to wait for something to happen when the cycle of corruption continues.... Best of luck my friend, you sure should get $180/hr on EAD, GC and when you are a citizen. It the turn of the idiots at Programmers Guild to read this thread thinking why they are not getting $180/hr. And those geniuses still don't get.... and they blame us for their problems. Well, its not their fault, they have to find and label some group of people as their enemy before they can play a victim card to get some sympathy and relief from nationalistic group of politicians.

    Agree on ur second point, however I was surprised with the context that "ok lets see how much we can buy the MS course and how soon can i finish it" as supposed to it will be great to do MS and lets see how I can further my career with an added benefit of getting C in case of GC process.

    Like it or not, however, it is non-sense to ask people with several years in the industry to be put behind fresh graduates, who will be only fit to work under them when they join

    This is why the spillover's should consider the year too, and backlogs have to be cleared for older category, and if both category in same year then priority to preferred category

    But there are so many insanities in the current laws, that if they start counting it's going to take quite a while to get any result, much less to start revamping

    One simple suggestion which is less comlicated than all those above.
    BTW you don't need rbi clearance.
    You can send an overseas wire from india through your bank a/c where the cost would be minimal( only exchange rate diff and cost of wire($25-50).

    Your parents can safely gift you $100,000 a year. Your bank only would need a letter from them saying its a gift.

    I have tried this to repatriate my assets and it works all the time.

    No need to open nre or nro a/c or anything.
    ps. don;t entertain any solicitation on this site for reverse hawala or anyhthing as you don;t know who will cheat you!

    i tend agree with you, most of our forum topics start sensibly and then meander on...


    The very reason why we join this forum so that we can, as whole, say something that may influence the law makers of this country to change the existing laws so that our problem with GC will be resolve.

    Alot of times the comments in this forum are completely irrelevant and very insulting to the Americans. And here, we are asking them to please change your laws so we could live happily in their county. And if they say no, that's their right.

    I am as frustrated as anyone here and I know people from other countries including Australia, Philippines, UK and China who have been waiting for years as well.

    If we could please make our comments "not country-centric", I am sure more people will join this forum.

    I know several people are not participating in this forum anymore because they are turned off by these country-centric comments.

    It hurts, but that's the truth.

    Tina, my wife has the exact same issue. Pl advise. She is workng on H1 but getting delayed pay and paystubs and no W2 for 2006 since she dd not have SSN until feb 2007. To be safe, she wants to apply for H4 in Chennai although she still has valid H1. have 2 questions.'

    1. can we fix a web appointment thru VFS for H4 visa stamping for her, even though she is on H1 right now and does not have H4 I797? I will add he as my dependent, since I am doing my H1 renewal as well and my case is strong

    2. will they ask for her h1 paystubs and W2s if she is applying for H4 in chennai? Hopefully not. she has an expired H4 visa so she cannot re-enter on H4 visa.

    3. also is it possible to travel from Atlanta or nearby to chennai without getting transit visa since we might not have time and aretravelling on expired visas. any short routes airlines you know?(singapore does not need transit visas?)even european cities that dont ask for transit visas will be fine.

    My friend sent me through wire transfer. I think bank was HDFC.
    He had't get RBI clearance or anything and he sent under maintenance category or something like not sure.

    It was done in 2005 not sure rules are changed lately.

    thats the problem.... I cannot switch to another job as I am in the 7th year of H1B and I-140 approved but did not apply for I-485 yet. friends told me its risky to switch jobs now as I may be out of status.

    Boss, I was exactly in same position as yours. You can call it a mirror image. I switched in 9th yr of h1 after being a white collar slave with same employer. I'll suggest before you loose self respect and confidence in your own eyes..... SWITCH.

    Mr. GC_Rip,

    Your are definitely a EB2 worth candidate. A company willing to support you and a good attorney is all you want. There are plenty who have qualified for EB2 with these qualifications.

    Instead of MS, look for a good consultancy or a perm job which will do the trick for you. I do know/understand that it is hard to get consulting jobs and maintaining visa's for family members but look at the bright side, labor nowadays takes only about 3 weeks and 140 if you apply through PP, then you are talking 2 weeks again. You have a possibility to get out of this mess.

    If kids from college gets into EB2 and gets GC in two years, You sure do sir...

    OK now to members who think I am wrong can bash me but this is what I believe in, if a system can tie you down with stupid rules and no accountability on its workers, I am ok with a deserving candidate cutting the line ahead and getting his GC. Hail common sense.

    Can anyone recommend attorney who are good in AC21 and I-485 Motion To Reopen cases. Who is better, muthy or Oh law firm, or Ron Gotcher ? I am confused as to whose services I should take knowing that my I-140 will be revoked and if I have to file MTR.
