Here are a couple of photos of my half of our home office... recently made some pretty significant changes (including switching to Apple).

May I be the first to say: Where's our desktop?
If you're referring to a Mac Pro, I know that mine shipped last night from CA and is currently in East Boston. Should be here this afternoon and then I can finally connect up my 30" ACD.

That's actually pretty impressive.
It really is. So much for all the people who thought the big deal Apple was making out of it was lame.

I think the main thing that discourages people from buying a ZUNE is the Zune...
anyway if this Beatles thing works with Apple, it will most likely be a limited time excklusivity 6 months to one year tops and then open to other online sellers.
Yes. Apple could give away The Beatles songs (i.e. take no money themselves) and STILL win because every Beatles song sold via iTunes is a song that (a) isn't sold from another store, thus depriving others from that revenue and (b) isn't usable on other players, without a process that is too involved for Joe Public.
Not to mention the HUGE optics of getting The Beatles who, like it or not, are the biggest act in pop music history. Even if the exclusivity contract was 1 year, that takes the wind out of others sails (pun intended), and provides the public a year to stock their playlists with Apple-branded Beatles tunes, after which the momentum is gone and sales via other online outlets is minimal.
This would be a BIG win for Apple.

WW1 was another silly European power struggle which we were pulled into. It isn't as if there was any nation I would call the "bad guys" in WW1. It was just a stupid squabble over resources and power.
True, but the Germans were attacking our ships, killing our citizens, etc. I don't think the Germans would have been, " Ok, we'll stop" if we asked really nicely. Like I said, those ships were carrying weapons, but they were supposed to let the men get off before sinking it. They failed to do that.
The revolutionary war was necessary if you assume that the USA being its own sovereign nation is a particularly important thing. This is not a belief to which I subscribe, in my eyes the revolutionary war is more an example of an upstart colony being expected to work with its parent nation and deciding that it didn't feel like it (much like an 8 year old child). The motivations behind our separation from the British empire was basically "we don't want to pay taxes, also were miffed about you selling us tea cheaper than we could buy it from smugglers :confused:".
If the will of colonies wanted to be there own country and want to govern themselves, sure it is important. The issue with the taxes was not that they didn't want to pay taxes, but had no representation when Britain implemented the taxes upon the colonies. Hence the saying, " No taxation without representation".

They SOUND like they play the same thing, I can assure you they don't. Take one of those songs and listen to it in Mono and you'll be able to tell the difference most of the time.
Some albums I swear just have a few ms delay between channels... I miss the days of Queen using balance as a musical instrument.

Movies purchased from the iTunes Store can't be burned to a DVD or VCD that will play in a DVD player or Video CD.
How is apple service different from Amazon?. Other than a pretty interface (last time i checked, pretty interfaces did not save me money or help pay the bills).. what's different?. Is the pricing different?.. are the restrictions different?.. why shouldn't I buy from amazon.. what happened to "when apple comes out with their service, they will kill amazon"??
Lame.

Was the one more thing at the iPod event last October the TV shows?
If so, the one more thing this year could be the Movies.

It has been a year an a half or more since the 60GB iPod was released and over a year since we've been hearing about an 80GB version. I know i am in the minority who wants a larger one. Me for music only but I assume you video people will need more memory eventually anyway. Hey how about a 100GB version! I never jumped to the iPod video since they never expanded it's memory...

I feel so sorry that the Beatles will never get your moey and that their greed made you a thief.
i have not pirated any music except for the beattles since itunes came out... if you dont give consumers what they want, they will find a way to get it... their own greed bit them in the ass and i dont feel the least bit sorry for them... now they have realized that they missed the boat, and they are crawling back to try to make money... sorry Yoko... you f$#%ed up!!!

What these naysayers are NOT saying is what pro features are missing.
Here's a quote for you
t the viewer is essentially dead. I'll be very interested to see how actual editing works on this thing -- none of this addresses the process of selecting a clip, setting ins and outs, and getting it onto the timeline. All of this is about stuff that's already on the timeline, and that's where Apple seems to be suggesting you do the majority of your editing.
That doesn't seem very... precise. I love Final Cut, but 'precision editing' (aka Trim Mode in Avid) doesn't replace knowing what you're picking before you place it into your cut.
Avid,FCP7,Premiere,Vegas all have a viewer.
Now I know some people that don't use the viewer all that much and I know others that swear by it.
I myself have been using it less and less over time

The edu price for 2gb is an additional 112, how far off consumer prices is that (I know a gig for my lappy will set me back 90 but I'm not up on prices for other people's memory).
Don't forget that 120GB HD. It is a moot point though, the HD is easily replaced in the MB.

HAHAHA, i'm guessing Gates never had his way with the ladies ;)
I have the sneaking suspicion Gates didn't have much trouble with the ladies... considering while most people were offering drinks, he was offering weekend trysts to remote islands off the cost of Fiji.
Or better yet, he could just offer the entire island.

Can we get the new ones with the school promotion?
Nope. You can read the PDF on the apple website for details.
seems kinda sly to unload the old nanos on poor students.
You're not suggesting we should feel sorry for someone getting a FREE nano, even if it's the previous model?
While many people are looking for Apple to integrate a radio tuner into the iPod it isn't going to happen.
They already have a radio tuner add-on if you really want one. Personally, the whole point of getting an iPod is so I can avoid radio.

I have to descent from the mass and say I was not impressed by the Keynote. What the hell is with Safari still having the brushed metal interface, as well as the finder, etc...
I thought they were finally going to get rid of that and get some consistency in their GUI.
Overall, I am much more interested in the developers. When is OS X going to be more than a different OS and get some key native applications? Apple continues to lead the show, as they should, but they should take a hint from Microsoft and promote their developers more. Like it or not, it's not Apple, but ultimately their developers that will grow the platform.
Steve really should have pressed the developers to commit on stage to release dates...if that was possible. Microsoft should have been present to provide some information in regards to the next version of Office and its time frame for release.
How can he press them for release times when they haven't even got their hands on the new Developer kit?
Also its up to the developers i.e. Adobe et al to get the key native apps out the door. Apple is doing everything it can to help them. i.e. Xcode 2.x, hands on labs etc. Thats what WWDC is for.

If you run a business, like I do, then you would actually appreciate what they've done. To hire a new designer involves having enough work in the first place, which costs money. You then need to pay recruitment fees (anything from 500 - 5k depending who you use), buy them a new Mac (around 1500+ for a decent iMac), load it with software (around 2k) and then hope the candidate is as good as they interviewed. You're taking all of the risk and hoping that the work continues regularly enough to cover their salary and all of the expenses you just paid out on, when in SMEs it can vanish as quickly as it arrived. So after spending maybe as much as 8k before the member of staff has even started and you've bought their software, to be able to pay 85/m for the software instead of 1700 in one hit is a much needed relief.

why would u really need a better resolution for the iSight?
Use it as a video/security/iChat/Games camera.
Use it for higher quality still shots.
Have improved video chat quality when real broadband speeds available. I have 1meg up 8meg down, that should be fast enough for some decent video.
its stupid
all most people do is take funny pics of them-selves and do iChat
Because the current quality is so low...
And I think you'll find that people do more than that.
And even if thats all they do why not have a higher resolution? Seems plenty of people are doing these things.
if u increase the quality of the iSight for iChat, then it slows the video down
it also will be jerky because the file is large
If you have average machines and broadband yep it does. Whereas if you have more potent dual intel machines, mpeg4 and decent ADSL2+ etc, then you can get better quality video...iChat can already support 4 people communicating now, so 2 communicating with higher bandwidth should be easy *sigh*
and a wireless iSight will just make iChat even slower
Really? How fast is wireless...mmm...up to 54mbps...how fast is decent broadband...1-2mbps up stream...gee wireless is like 25x faster than it needs to be to keep the frame rate up for broadband. Even at range it should be faster.
And there are PLENTY of high end (Axis etc) wireless security cameras out there right now using G to pump back MPEG4 video wirelesly. I even have one.
Maybe you should do some research first before calling people stupid ;)

so were there long lines at radio shack ? how much is the apple care pk
Lets say they opened at 7:30. I arrived at 6:45 and there were two people there. There were about 10 by 7:30. So not very big line, but then again I think they only received about two of each model/color, except no 64GB models.

Not too inspiring for those of us who know how serious RSD is.
If it works, great...but there will always be a question as to how fragile the inner workings of a RSD computer is.
I like Apple but I was surprised in a bad way about this...imagine your computer shutting down completely and completely randomly every 5-120 minutes.
I got a replacement and I'm sure most others will want one, too.

No. Please god no. I don't know how many of you have done e-books but e-books on anything smaller then a 4" screen sucks. HARD.
What Apple needs to do is come out with a dedicated device. Integration seems the only way they can push into another market at this point. (Shades of MS Windows with [insert anything here.] integration.)
What Apple needs to do is form an alliance with E-Reader / Peanut Press and having it integrate with iTMS. Then come out with an e book reader that uses digital ink. This is the tech that can paint a screen then cut power to the screen yet still have the image remain. In cases such as this we are talking WEEKS of battery life. Use digital ink + Apple's standard design flare + iTMS and I can guarantee people will eat it up.
Does anyone know how big this would be? It would be huge. No beyond huge. Literature is as universally accepted as music. It's used everywhere from text books in schools, to training manuals, to maintenance manuals, to entertainment in the home, to entertainment while you are sitting waiting for the dentist. Imagine subscribing to a magazine and having it downloaded off of iTMS like a podcast.
In short I would sell my first, second, third born sons, and cut off a pinky toe for Apple to release an e-book reader. This is Sony's attempt:
http://dynamism.com/images/extra/DSCN0862.jpg
No one in the market has done the design right yet. There is this huge market waiting for someone to step up to the plate and get it done right, easy, and elegant. Sound familiar?
But above all please PLEASE PLEASE don’t integrate it into the iPod. It would be doing major disservice to the emerging industry.
First Off, that's sony's Attempt?? Talk about a stupid design for an ebook reader. Whats all that keyboard/bezel/page margin doing apart from wasting space? Compare the enormous size of the device vs the actual size used to display the book:
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/5671/dscn0862vm8.jpg
Remember folks, its supposed to be an ebook reader. We dont need any of that other crap thats on the Sony device, just a huge screen and small bezel to be able to see the document effectively.
Now i dont know too much about industrial design, but apparantly neither does Sony. Apple could do so much better than this.

Not at all. I've had predictions go wrong before, so this is nothing new to me. But it just annoys me that some people are so concerned with getting the best computer at the moment when it'll only be the best for a few months at best, and in the case of the MacBook, isn't even the best.
lol, people will always want the latest and greatest in this consumerist society. thats what makes america, america! if u dont like it, go to europe :p (im joking, plz, no one take offense)
