    1) what is the best way to attach photos when sending supporting docs so that they won't get lost or mis-placed. What goodies are avaialble in Staples for this?

I put them in a thin plastic bag my photographer gave me and used a clip to put all documents together

    2) As part of AP e-file process, is it possible to do all the work on a machine which does not have printer and later retrieve the confirmation notice and print it?

You can do it, you have the option to save the documents as pdf. From what I read from other users, sometimes USCIS website hangs and then you can request (by sending an e-mail) for the pdfs to be e-mailed to you. In either case I would recommend to use a PC with printer, it's more convenient.

snathan, dig up the history of these winers and lets see what they have accomplished or contributed to this world. Being the first would indicate that person (according to your definition of power) would be extrememly powerful, right? Now ask them to pen an essay on any issue and lets compare that to another class topper who just exels in creative thinking. Or lets just give these two candidates a project to work on and lets see who comes up with better ideas or greater problem solving skills. I personally know a kid who did not make it to the final round but just fell short (this year) and honestly I can tell you that the only skill (yes, the only skill) she has is this one. She is not involved in music lessons, does not participate in science olympiad, advance math or anything of that sort. Now I have to admit that this is the only one candidate I know personally for this year. Let me be honest from the depth of my heart that there is no issue of jealousiness or envy here. This is just a frank opinion and as we have already seen, there are an equal number of people who dont think this is a competition that is to be given the importance it is being given.

Simple fact. I agree with you.

Thanks for your reply. Everybody else is just teasing and making fun instead of answering a simple question.

    (1) Are these steps taken in a sequence?
    (2) Does USCIS update the status of our file so that we know where we are i.e whether our file is stuck FBI Name check or FBI Fingerprint Check, etc..

I didn't think my answers were making fun or teasing anyone - sorry if you felt that way, I didn't mean them to be interpreted like that.

The main problem is that no one really knows for sure whether these steps are taken in sequence. There is little to no transparency. There are procedures, but we can not guarantee that they are followed.

To answer your second part. No, I don't believe there are any standard updates that indicate this, but I could be wrong. I think that there is an update if you clear it, but not if you are stuck in it. Make sense? Pappu has an excellent post that details the name check process http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12000

To answer nlssubbu with the query about the "pre-approval" - I don't think it is a 1 time thing. Its a fairly standard USCIS practice. I have a link somewhere to the IO AOS processing manual. If I can find it I'll post it here.

Do I think they have enough resources to process them all? Absolutely not, but I doubt there will be a rush considering PDs won't be current for a while (esp eb3)

I revisited this thread today and saw several heartwrenching stories of some of our IV members. One way for IV to help you is through letting your situation be known to others via media. We have a few opportunities and if you are interested please send an email to himanshu at immigrationvoice.org. Do not PM me since my PM box gets filled very often.

It will not only help all of us generate awareness about our plight to american public, lawmakers too will be influenced by the magnitude of problems we face while waiting patiently in line for several years. I feel media is a great tool and we can use it very effectively when we all can get our message across in the world outside of this forum. Once we get IV members ready to volunteer for such interviews and to talk about their plight, IV will try its best to get their voices heard.

This is rather discouraging if this is true. This basically says one can't require any experience for zone IV if you require MS.

PennDot Issued 1 year driver's license for both me and my wife. We took H1B 8th year original receipt notice, original employer verification letter and passports. PennDot issued 1 year license based on that. Everything took less than 15 minutes. Please make sure your employer verification letter states your employment duration i.e. how long your company intents to employ you.

Gulti mentality was something that guy(malibuguy) was talking about . Thats what i meant by Gulti mentality . I just started with a simple question "WHATS THE MOTIVATION FOR CONTRIBUTION(MONEY AS WELL AS TIME) FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T APPLIED FOR GC " !! Was that offensive ? I don't need answers for specific questions. I just need to know what IV is all about ? ? BTW, i have balls to ask anything to anybody if it makes sense(immigration officer is not making rules) .

Can you enlighten us what exactly is the so called mentality? oh well dont worry. We know what it is and it is your obtuse vision of certain community. Just because he does not think being on H4 is hell and just because he asked you to look around on the forums for an answer, you utter ethnic slurs and paint a whole community as one that lacks pride?? So much for your education and your work at the world's largest SC firm. If you read the mission or goal statement for a second on IV home page, you would have figured what IV is mainly working on. On the motivation Q, sitting at home itself is a motivation. What else do you need to get out there and work for a provision that will help your family and many others to come. you guys can work on the issue and get a provision that wil help your family and other families in the future from the inability to work or else you can continue bitching and moaning about how it is a loss of self esteem, which IMO is lack of self esteem. Choice is yours

Please stop hijacking the thread with useless ethnic slurs and equating H1 with slavery. Enough I guess you got the answer to your Q from the man himself and others too.

I agree we should keep the momentum going and achieve 10K this month as well.

My contribution of $25 Using the Donate Now button

    Malibuguy post 2

We should try and get at least $500 today to get the momentum going.

    Malibuguy post 3

Zen, the point is very simple. If you believe in this organization and what it does then you will donate knowing that IV needs the money to lobby for you, me and everyone else who is part of the community.

Lobbying is a very sensitive issue and it is not always possible for the persons involved to give you daily updates. Rather disclosing too much before time can have the opposite effect with people interested in lobbying against our interest mobilizing more aggressively.

Also bills are introduced all the time and there is not always enough time to hold funding drives to lobby for and against those bills. Moreover lobbying with the congress and senate is an on going effort and will require resources anyways.

However if you feel you want to be in the thick of things and know everything that is going on, then I guess joining your state chapter and being an active member can help you get some additional info. I believe volunteering your time is a lot more useful for the community than only money and if you can do that, all the power to you. I for one try and make my contributions to help those guys who are taking the pains to do all the work which benefits all of us

Malibuguy post 4 (direct response to you)
Not sure why you would generalize all H1b holders as experiencing hell - I for one did not. Anyways if you take the time to browse the forums you will find the answer to your question.

Kondur007 is right. If the dates move forward in leaps and bounds it is because not enough cases are being processed; if the dates stay the same or more forward at a slow rate, it means that USCIS has a demand for Visa Numbers and they are being requested in a consistent pattern, so DOS does not have to advance cut off dates so drastically.

Having said that - it still feels like Russion Roulet. It is tough to stay positive in this environment, so (here is my plug-in), JOIN TeamIV Today and run your stresses away!:D

"Unfortunately, they now will not have any excuses (with security check and name check moving towards "current": thanks to FBI), they WILL have to increase their efficiency in processing the cases!"

    Man you are optimistic -

You can forget and kiss this thought goodbye.....

Can we do something in Indian regional news papers? I know http://www.eenadu.net or http://www.vaarttha.com/ two most popular online Telugu newspaper for skilled immigrants in US. Also www.idlebrain.com has popular enough which might help different group of people to know about what IV is doing.

It would be so great if our Chinese members told us more about this portal, and any others where we could get the word out.

    Thanks!

When in Rome do as the Romans do.. start eating burgers & you will develop the much needed 'thick' skin.. that should keep you immuned to all those bickerings..

Like CNNs Sanjay Gupta once quoted "Immigrants come to America to pursue their American Dream but eventually pursue the American Bulge by eating American food"
    :D

    Folks,

I've been hearing a lot of banter about the L1 Vs H1-B the fact remains both these categories are badly abused, it doesnt matter who is the bigger evil. I would tend to agree that L1 has a worse abuse rate however.
    .................................................. ....................................
    .................................................. .......................................
    .................................................. ........................................

When the H1-B was conceived it was supposed to pave its way really skilled engineers with excellent credentials and it is not the case anymore, 1)if you are going to tell me things like QA and Data Warehousing need mind boggling skills I think I can just have a good laugh at it. The local citizens are very much capable of executing on them. These jobs account for a huge majority of the software based jobs in the US, yes this is not the only category for H1-B jobs but software accounts for a big chunk.

    ..........................................
    2) Consultants bringing in people from wherever charging them a huge sum of money filing for their H1-B and then looking out for a job for them, the only skill here is the consultants skill in finding the person a job :-).
    .........................................
    3) I do not agree with the notion of good consultants, every consultant abuses the employment based Visa system,

    4) and I am for a cap on L1-B visa's or a limit thats decided by the number of employees a firm employs in the US.
    .................................................. ..............................................
    .................................................. .............................................

    1. If you are in IT field, you don't even have a grasp of software development lifecycle and the part QA plays in it. A good QA cycle is essential for a good quality product. It is your ignorance about software development cycle that makes you say good QA guys are not an asset for a good product and they are not smart as developers.

A tenth grader with enough common sense can do good software development. India produces lot of people with good common sense and analytical thinking. That is one of the reasons for India's software boom.

IMO if you don't have a patent in your name, you are not high skilled enough.

    2. How many consulting companies do you know do charge their candidates for filing H1 ? I haven't come accross any. It is illegal to do that. If someone is doing that, ICE is after them.

    3. All I can say is you are as ignorant as some of the anti-immigrants in this country. You haven't seen the real world.Come out of your little world and look around to see the real world.

    4. Yes, you are for whatever suits you. What about getting yourself a preferential treatment for H1B visa and GC ? Sounds good ?

BTW I am curious why you are referring to "consulting companies" as consultants. "consultant" and "consulting companies" mean different things.

Out of all these how many do you think you yourself will be able to do?

It is not I, who decides it on what to do. It is always the opinion of majority members.
