Hello ,
yesterday i was watching Cspan 2 and debate about immigration.one of the senator (i don't remember the name ) was telling about a story of a woman with six children migrated from some poor european country ten years back to America.unfortunately her husband died after coming here.She move on in life and went to idhao and opened a cattle ranch and brought up her children well.Now she is very proud and successfull business woman and mother of six grown ups whom i am sure will be well establish them selves.
i listened the story and thanked the God that she didn't came on H4 VISA.otherwise she couldn't achieve the same.
For H4 this land is certainly not land of opportunity.Rather i suggest all H4 including my wife to burn their masters in business administration degrees and PHDs ,start doing cleaning jobs like illegals and eventually apply for Z visa.
Nobody is listening to us on capital hill .H4 are inanimate objects who came here to USA to accompany their fellow husbands or wife.No matter if it is for one year or 30 years.
And in the end no reform for H4 in this bill and no hopes for getting GC to their spouse.

How the hell can all the catagories after EB3 be current yet EB3 be back logged???? By rights they should be unavilable until we are current.

I think IV should work on filing a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT for several reasons. Are we going to be coward legals waiting, for lazy folks at USCIS to undo the wrong they've done for so many years.
1. Blatant errors in the processing which has, destroyed , causing huge stress, trauma and what not to ppl waiting in limbo.
2. Inability to provide any insight on the basic timeline for any application. Look at the EB backlogs, they change there bulletin as if its a stock market, it can go forward or backward depending on the mood of the ppl working on any day.
3. Immigration is a burden on the legal immigrants, we pay for those ppl jobs. How can they offer such a sub-standard service, considering the hefty fees they charge from us.
4. The US constitution says " We the people", does not say "Legal Aliens" don't have any say or can't ask for justice.
5. We are legals, did not cross any border like those illegals, which this administration is so concerned about. We pay for services, not screw ups!
6. Lost EB visas for USCIS / DOS mis-handling.
7. Even if we loose the lawsuit, still we made our point. USCIS sucks! period

Diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil, let's hope we can all bask soon in a festival of lights by getting some relief from retrogression....
actually...and this is just me nitpicking now...Diwali is technically a Hindu festival not an Indian festival (since 20% of Indians are not Hindu), so the complaint may be more accurate if you point to the religious aspect...

Suppression of cultures is more in tune with the ertswhile Soviet policy of suppression of various cultures (Georgian, Ukrainian, the list goes on); and we all know what happpened to Soviet Russia.
There is no reason potential legal immigrants of different faith should not open a new thread to wish people of fellow faith on commonly celebrated festivals. There is no great reason to pursue political correct speak to the degree where you would have to create a common greeting message if we want to wish "Happy Diwali" to fellow Hindus.
People of different faiths certainly have the freedom to post a similar message. After all the pool of potential legal immigrants is far and wide.
And I would certainly be happy for fellow Chinese, Muslims, Chrisitians, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Native Americans, Mexicans, Portuegese, Spanish, Greeks, Albanians, Croats, Serbs, Basque, Irish, SriLankan, Bangladeshis, Eritreans, Ethiopians, Somalis, Germans, French, Bralizians, Colombian, Ecuadarean, Argentinians, Chilean, Haitians, West Indians (the list is incomplete mind you) when somebody from their community puts up a message wishing their fellows the arrival of a happy community event.
The voice of these communities is the "Voice" of "Immigration". It would be foolhardy to try to suppress this voice in favor of political correct speak.
We are all working toward the same goal (pursuit of happiness); denial of one's culture and simple traditions is not in tune with this pursuit.
Just my 2 cents.

2. Spelling is a logical/creative thing. Its not cramming words from dictionary. Its an art too. Ever heard of phonetics.

Are you quite sure it is a logical creative thing ? There are a lot of words which are pronounced quite differently from the way they are spelled ... unless you know the word ( by cramming ) you would not be able to spell it.

Obviously this is hard work but to what end. How is knowing the spelling of every word in the planet going to help her or anyone for that matter.
Better be a good writer who writes on interesting topics , stories or novels than to be the proof reader for the writer. Who do you think would have a good career - the writer or the proof reader.
Learning how to spell would have taken thousands and thousands of hours . Wouldn't that time be better spent in learning maths or science or arts or a musical instrument or sports or anything that will help her in the future or be personally gratifying for life. My company lawyer addressed this part. The way it works is that they will work on your file only when your PD is current. So even if you apply now, they most likely wont work on it after July as your PD wont be current. Then when next time (say in Jan 2008) when your PD becomes current, they will pick up all the files for that month and start working on it. It might be that they will work on your file on Jan1st or Jan 31st. You can send your wife AOS the moment your PD becomes current. So you want to make sure that it reaches there before they approve your AOS. In case you are extremely unlucky, then they would start working on your file on 1st day of the month and finish it before end of that day, making it impossible for your wife's application to go through. Thats rare though. So if you can make sure that her app reaches on 1st day of the month in which PD is current, then they should most likely add her to your AOS and work on those together and make your life go forward....its a chance which you will be taking...But again life is a chance
If you are single and are in a position not to get married b4 August 17th please think b4 applying for 485. It is of no use to you unless you want to switch jobs on EAD which is a HUGE RISK!!My guess is you are going to get married at some point of time(Barring guys who are already in their midlife crisis b4 marriage) and would apply for your wife's Adjustment of Status. Please apply 485 togather when the PD bcomes current again. Bear in mind that even if you apply now b4 marriage you have to maintain your H1-B status. It will only make it worse when one had already applied for I-485 coz you could only get 1 year extensions as opposed to 3 years when you have an approved I-140 and have not filed for 485. Don't get overzealous and apply now and regret later!!

You can't generalize. If your kids are smart they can get into better colleges like IITs etc. I think you are confusing the issue about adaptability with good future prospects.
Wait a second. If you are not adaptable to the new environment, it becomes a rat race.If the situation is not conducive, your smartness aint gonna help. I think thats what the OP clearly meant. Its not easy for a kid who is in 8th grade in US to snugly fit into Indian System. Coming to the IIT's, Have you ever compared the total number of seats available in IIT's to the accepted numbers from IVY leagues and other big schools.
